About the role

In-store pastry expert and instructor responsible for delivering baking/pastry classes, driving sales of bakeware and related products, and upholding Sur La Table's service standards.

Responsibilities

  • Represent Sur La Table’s brand and culture by creating memorable, educational experiences that inspire repeat visits and customer loyalty.
  • Deliver in-store culinary experiences focused on pastry and baking classes, following recipes and game plans to ensure consistency and quality.
  • Communicate technical pastry concepts in a clear, encouraging manner.
  • Maintain expertise by staying current on products and training resources.
  • Drive sales by upholding kitchen standards, promoting class sign-ups, and retail items used in class.
  • Deliver class revenue goals through high enrollment, positive reviews, and guest return rates.
  • Assist in setting up and breaking down classes, including mise en place, ingredient prep, and cleaning workstations.
  • Clean and sanitize dishes and equipment; restock and organize kitchen supplies.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety standards, health codes, and sanitation regulations; handle tools and equipment safely.
  • Maintain inventory levels, minimize shrink, and control expenses; may handle liquor/wine/beer per regulations.
  • Ensure store safety and cleanliness; adhere to wage & hour laws and SLT SOPs.

Qualifications

  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • A degree in culinary arts preferred; extensive culinary experience considered in lieu of formal education.
  • 1-2 years of kitchen operations experience.
  • Valid Food Manager Certification.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Passion for community engagement and providing exceptional customer experiences.
