About the role

Backend-focused software engineer role owning Node.js/TypeScript services, integrations, importers, and developer surface for Plane’s platform, with collaboration across Django data models and external developers.

Responsibilities

  • Own the integrations that connect Plane to Slack, GitHub, and other tools (handling API changes).
  • Own the importers that migrate a customer's history out of Jira, Linear, and similar tools.
  • Design the queue and worker architecture behind that work (retries, idempotency, backpressure, non-duplicating jobs).
  • Build the OAuth and developer-facing surface that external builders write apps against (including agent apps).
  • Work daily with Django engineers and answer external developers in public GitHub issues.
  • Reconcile state after failures (partial imports, expired tokens, rate limits) and repair paths rather than only new features.

Qualifications

  • You have shipped Node.js and TypeScript to production. Point to a project and describe one decision you would change now.
  • You have worked in Express, NestJS, or a comparable framework.
  • You have built queue and worker systems (retries, idempotency, handling mid-job failures).
  • You have integrated with third-party APIs you did not control (rate limits, pagination, webhooks, expiring tokens).
  • You are comfortable in Postgres (read queries, indexing, impact explanation).
