About the role
Senior-level, remote, full-time position on Fly.io’s networking team. You’ll work on fly-proxy and Corrosion, the distributed database that powers routing state across the fleet, spanning multiple layers from BGP to L7 load balancing. The role emphasizes systems thinking, distributed architectures, and operational reliability in a fast-growing platform that runs Docker containers as Firecracker micro-VMs across a global Anycast network.
Responsibilities
- Work on fly-proxy, the edge and internal networking proxy built on Tokio, Hyper, and Tower.
- Contribute to Corrosion, the distributed database for routing state across the fleet.
- Engage with BGP infrastructure and supporting routing technology to ensure low-latency, reliable delivery to the nearest edge.
- Collaborate across layers from BGP networking to L7 load balancing, addressing cross-cutting distributed systems concerns.
- Help reduce technical debt in the proxy while maintaining reliability for a growing user base.
Qualifications
- Familiarity with Rust.
- Experience with complex codebases or distributed systems across multiple continents.
- Ability to work across varying abstraction layers from BGP networking to L7 load balancing.
- Strong focus on tradeoffs, reliability, and operability of networking systems.
