About the role

Senior Packaging Engineer responsible for designing, developing, and owning Mytra's packaging systems across four material paths, leading returnable packaging, qualifying packaging via testing, and partnering with cross-functional teams to meet carrier, customs, and field service requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Own packaging design and development across inbound, outbound, direct-to-site, and spare parts/materials paths.
  • Lead the returnable packaging program end-to-end, including standards, outsourcing, return loops, and scaling.
  • Qualify packaging through testing (ISTA, ASTM) across drop, vibration, compression, and climate scenarios.
  • Engage early in product development to define packaging requirements during design.
  • Source and manage packaging suppliers for foam, crating, containers, and returnable totes.
  • Develop and maintain packaging documentation (specifications, BOMs, packing instructions, labeling).
  • Design field service packaging kits for technician use at customer sites.
  • Track packaging performance and drive continuous improvement through data analysis.
  • Partner with logistics and 3PLs to ensure packaging aligns with carrier and customs requirements.

Qualifications

  • 4–7 years of experience in industrial or transit packaging engineering.
  • Experience designing and qualifying packaging for complex hardware (robotics, mechanical assemblies, precision equipment).
  • Experience designing and managing returnable packaging programs.
  • Experience with international packaging and shipping standards (ISTA, ASTM, AIAG) and corresponding test protocols.
  • Experience working with packaging suppliers and fabricators (custom foam, crating, structural containers).
  • Understanding of logistics constraints: freight modes, carrier rules, handling conditions, and customs/import-export requirements.
  • Strong documentation skills for specs, BOMs, and packing procedures.
