Forward Deployed Engineer, UKI
About the role
Embedded with enterprise customers in London to architect and ship production systems on Telnyx's global network, focusing on delivering production outcomes (AI contact center, SOC/NOC agent, global communications, connected mobility, or enterprise inference) rather than demos. Works jointly with an Enterprise AE to own technical discovery, architecture, POC, and production go-live, building real solutions at scale.
Responsibilities
- Embed with enterprise customers to understand their communications workflows, AI use cases, and integration challenges firsthand
- Build and deploy custom implementations: AI Voice Assistants, Telnyx APIs (Voice, Messaging, Fax, Wireless), WebRTC
- Run open-weight LLMs in customer environments or deploy self-hosted stacks behind your own serving engine when required
- Deploy and operate LiteLLM as the model gateway in customer environments
- Instrument and govern LLM usage through the gateway—cost tracking, caching, logging/observability, guardrails
- Wire production observability for everything you ship—metrics, logs, traces, dashboards, alerting
- Design model routing strategies for real-time voice workloads balancing latency, cost, and quality
- Make the build-vs-buy case between self-hosted and hosted APIs, keeping code portable
- Adapt models to customer domains with prompt/RAG pipelines and regulatory considerations (UK GDPR, UK/Irish laws)
- Lead POCs, pilots, and production launches from whiteboard to go-live
- Own customer outcomes and stay engaged until solution is live and stable
- Collaborate with Product and Engineering to shape roadmap from field insights (UK & Ireland)
- Create clear technical documentation, runbooks, and maintainable solutions for handoff
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex integration issues with customer teams
Qualifications
- CS degree or equivalent experience
- 3+ years building and shipping production software
- Proficiency in Python, Node.js/TypeScript, Go

- Experience deploying containerized services on Kubernetes with secrets/config management
- Observability experience (Prometheus+Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Graylog/ELK)
- High-concurrency experience with Kafka/messaging at scale
- API design from scratch (OpenAPI, REST/GraphQL, auth, rate limiting, versioning, idempotency)
- Event-driven/cloud-native mindset
- Exposure to SIP, WebRTC, or real-time voice/messaging systems
- Self-sufficient, customer-facing engineering
- Customer-facing engineering experience with ability to run discovery and present to executives
