About the role

Senior IC role leading the Deploy@Scale platform at Cloudflare, driving architecture, safety, observability, and automation for large-scale, automated deployments across the global network.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership for the platform powering safe, reliable, and automated deployments across Cloudflare.
  • Set technical direction across multiple work streams and influence dozens of engineering teams.
  • Participate in cross-team RFCs, design reviews, incident retrospectives, and architectural decisions.
  • Review designs, pair on difficult problems, and mentor engineers to raise the technical bar.
  • Define platform scope, decide what not to build, and ensure safety, speed, and scalability five years out.
  • Collaborate with EM and leadership to shape multi-quarter roadmaps and translate business needs into platform capabilities.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of hands-on software engineering experience, with architecture ownership of complex distributed systems.
  • Proven technical leadership beyond code, including RFCs and design reviews used by other senior engineers and teams.
  • Judgment for ambiguity and ability to define problems and roadmaps in partially specified environments.
  • Deep experience with safety, observability, and automation in production systems (rollback paths, health signals, guardrails).
  • Experience influencing technical direction across teams without direct authority.
  • Comfort with AI-assisted development and critical evaluation of AI outputs in safety-critical systems.
  • Experience with workflow orchestration, long-running/durable execution, or large-scale distributed systems is a strong plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; ability to write docs and RFCs that persuade and align.
