About the role
Databricks seeks a strategic leader to serve as Director of Order to Revenue Compliance, overseeing usage-based revenue metering, billing, and financial accounting compliance. The role leads a small team that bridges product metering and financial ground truth, ensuring SOX compliance, partner royalty governance, and audit readiness.
Responsibilities
- Strategic Team Leadership: Lead, coach, and scale a high-performing team consisting of two functional leads covering Partnerships / Royalty, Money/Engineering Compliance, and Issue Resolution.
- Usage & Revenue Fiduciary Oversight: Primary business and compliance oversight for all usage-related, financially impacting processes to ensure accuracy, SOX compliance, and validation prior to customer billing and revenue conversion.
- Partner Agreement & Royalty Governance: Own outbound/inbound royalty reporting, executions, and complex reconciliations (e.g., Azure/Microsoft, AWS, GCP, SAP); reduce manual risks and timing mismatches.
- Cross-Functional System Controls & "Two-in-the-Box" Execution: Collaborate with Engineering (Money Team) and Finance Data Systems (FDS) to validate metering, pricing, SKU additions, and billing logic before product launches.
- Audit Ownership & Technical Accounting: Serve as primary audit lead for external and internal audits and for executive stakeholders regarding platform consumption calculations and monetization structures.
- Remediation & Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Oversee categorization/resolution of usage issues, standardize refund SLAs/credits, and drive cross-functional RCAs with Engineering to prevent metering bugs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related technical field; CPA preferred.
- 12+ years of relevant experience in revenue accounting, IT audit, and SOX control frameworks.
- Familiarity with ASC 606, especially for consumption-based/usage-based revenue models, SaaS, and complex partner royalty agreements.
- Proven leadership experience managing managers or functional leads and collaborating with executive leadership across Engineering, Sales Operations, FP&A, and external auditors.
