About the role

Embed with enterprise customers in Milan to architect and ship production systems on Telnyx's global network (voice, messaging, AI, and wireless) alongside an Enterprise AE. Focus on real production outcomes, POC-to-production launches, and customer-ready solutions rather than demos.

Responsibilities

  • Embed with enterprise customers to understand their communications workflows, AI use cases, and integration challenges firsthand
  • Build and deploy custom implementations: AI Voice Assistants, Telnyx APIs (Voice, Messaging, Fax, Wireless), WebRTC
  • Run open-weight LLMs in customer environments and deploy self-hosted stacks when needed
  • Deploy and operate LiteLLM as the model gateway in customer environments
  • Instrument and govern LLM usage through the gateway (cost tracking, caching, logging, observability, guardrails)
  • Wire production observability (metrics, logs, traces, dashboards, alerting)
  • Design model routing strategies for real-time voice workloads with latency, cost, and quality considerations
  • Make build-vs-buy decisions for self-hosted vs hosted APIs, ensure portable code
  • Adapt models to customer domains and EU regulatory environments (GDPR, EU AI Act, local data protection)
  • Lead POCs, pilots, and production launches from whiteboard to go-live
  • Own customer outcomes and stay engaged until live and stable
  • Collaborate with Product and Engineering to shape roadmap from field insights (Italy, Spain, Greece)
  • Create technical documentation, runbooks, and maintainable handoff materials
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex integration issues with customer teams

Qualifications

  • CS degree or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years building and shipping production software
  • Proficiency in Python, Node.js/TypeScript, Go
  • Understanding of production model deployments, rate limits, timeouts, retries, cost attribution, and failure modes
  • Experience deploying containerized services on Kubernetes with secrets management
  • Strong observability experience (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Graylog/ELK)
  • High-concurrency experience with Kafka or similar
  • Experience building APIs from scratch (OpenAPI, REST/GraphQL, auth, rate limiting, versioning, idempotency)
  • Event-driven thinking and cloud-native instincts
  • Exposure to SIP, WebRTC, or real-time voice/messaging systems
  • Self-sufficient, customer-facing engineering experience, on-site and high-stakes conversations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication in English and Italian
  • Based in Milan or willing to relocate with travel across Italy, Spain, Greece
  • Legally authorized to work in Italy or eligible for sponsorship
