Senior iOS Engineer role focusing on iOS media experience, driving video discovery, playback, and engagement on Reddit's iOS app. The role emphasizes architecture, experimentation, cross-functional leadership, and high performance media experiences across constrained devices and networks.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the Technical Strategy for Media Engagement: Lead the iOS architecture for user-facing features that boost video discovery and consumption. Design and build immersive viewing surfaces and intuitive UI/UX flows to maximize watch time, retention, and daily active video users.
  • Champion for User Experience With An Experiment-Driven Culture: Partner with senior management to enable rapid prototyping and A/B testing; balance velocity with performance demands; use design, performance signals, and retention data to measure success.
  • Bridge the Gap Between Core Media and the User: Collaborate with client media infra, backend, Feeds, and ML ranking teams to translate HLS streaming and personalized recommendations into seamless front-end iOS features.
  • Lead Cross-Functional Execution: Partner with Product, Design, and Data Science to shape the product roadmap and align growth goals with iOS best practices.
  • Elevate iOS Engineering Standards: Establish best practices for integrating media components and managing complex media lifecycles to ensure stability and performance on constrained devices or networks.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of hands-on iOS experience
  • Proven track record of developing user-facing iOS mobile native applications at scale using Swift
  • Strategic partner with cross-team project experience
  • Data-informed with experience in metrics-driven design, experimentation, funnels, and QoE metrics
  • Comfort with growth-team ambiguity and fast prototyping
  • Clear and transparent communication skills
  • Media product expertise, including video player performance optimization and familiarity with AVFoundation, VideoToolbox, HLS, and integration with recommendation/feed systems (massive plus)
