About the role

Senior backend engineer responsible for platform components underpinning HighLevel's Workflows and Conversations, owning queues, storage layers, caching, infrastructure, and end-to-end component health in a high-throughput, globally distributed system.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build the platform components Workflows and Conversations run on, including queueing pipelines, storage access layers, caching strategies, rate limiters, and schedulers
  • Own components end to end: architecture, design docs, code, tests, rollout, dashboards, and production health
  • Deep work on data stores at scale: schema and index design, sharding, replication, and migrations on live systems with billions of records
  • Collaborate with infrastructure teams: GKE autoscaling, resource tuning, Pub/Sub and Cloud Tasks topologies, capacity planning
  • Identify and fix systemic gaps before production: idempotency, unbounded queues, cache stampedes, hot shards
  • Debug incidents across multiple layers by understanding interactions between services
  • Write design docs and RCAs to communicate platform behavior to engineers

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of backend engineering experience, with deep hands-on work in Node.js and/or Go
  • Strong systems understanding across application, database, and infrastructure for high-throughput production systems
  • Deep experience with queueing and async processing (e.g., Pub/Sub, Kafka, RabbitMQ, Cloud Tasks) including delivery semantics, ordering, backpressure, idempotency
  • Database depth beyond CRUD: indexing, sharding, replication, query performance, safe migrations on SQL or NoSQL stores
  • Hands-on experience with Redis or other in-memory stores, caching patterns and failure modes
  • Production experience with cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes, autoscaling, resource limits (prefer GCP)
  • Ability to write clear design docs and rigorous test cases
  • Champion of AI-assisted engineering and producing production-quality code
