About the role

Role at APPLY driving global payroll, benefits, HRIS administration, and total rewards analytics within a fast-growing, global organization.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day payroll administration and processing, advising People & Culture Leads for life cycle events with complex payroll implications.
  • Ensure payroll compliance and accuracy across Canada, USA, UK, Chile, and EoR ahead of each cycle.
  • Provide backup payroll processing coverage to ensure on-time payroll.
  • Monitor and improve data quality and speed when generating new employee profiles to trigger HRIS onboarding processes.
  • Partner with Finance for monthly general ledger reconciliations and accurate accruals/cost forecasting for payroll and benefits expenses.
  • Collaborate on month-end close reporting, providing variance analysis and resolving discrepancies.
  • Serve as SME across global benefits programs (Canada, USA, UK, EoR), interfacing with brokers, managing renewals, reporting, and reconciliation.
  • Manage employee health benefits and retirement plan administration.
  • Evaluate benefit plan composition, utilization, and renewal strategies with People & Culture Director.
  • Own total rewards communication and employee education programs to drive awareness and engagement.
  • Serve as tier-2 escalation point for complex employee inquiries.
  • Collaborate to manage leaves of absence aligned to global policy and compliance.
  • Support recurring pay equity analysis with People Operations Lead.
  • Manage day-to-day relationship with Deel; monitor HiBob and Deel administration; build workflows; deliver actionable insights.
  • Support audit readiness with accurate documentation; respond to audit requests.
  • Identify, design, and implement AI-enabled automations to streamline payroll, benefits, and HRIS processes.
  • Own development and tracking of People & Culture metrics; create dashboards and data models for strategic analytics.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in Payroll and People Operations, with at least 3+ years in a lead role within a fast-growing, global organization.
  • Experience with Canada and USA payroll (UK and Chile experience is a plus).
  • Proven track record managing finance/payroll audits, GL reconciliations, and audit readiness.
  • Experience administering payroll and total rewards across global employee base (compliance, benefits, leave management).
  • High-ownership mentality; ability to evaluate opportunities/risks and communicate with stakeholders.
  • Expert-level admin experience with HiBob (preferred) or another modern global HRIS; ability to build complex workflows and automations.
  • Advanced spreadsheet skills (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, Index/Match); ability to translate HR data into dashboards and executive insights (Google Sheets preferred).
  • Experience handling sensitive payroll escalations or complex leave/benefits cases with discretion.
  • Strong compliance and audit mindset with attention to detail.
  • Fluency in Spanish is an asset.
