About the role

6-month residency role at Ema where engineers contribute to production-grade AI Employees for enterprise customers, with end-to-end ownership from problem understanding to shipping, measuring, and production support.

Responsibilities

  • Work in the production codebase on real customer problems and production data
  • Take work from problem statement to shipped, measured result — design, build, test, launch, and follow-through until reliable
  • Contribute across multiple avenues including customer deployments, platform/product, quality/evaluation, reliability/cost, and trust/compliance
  • Engage in end-to-end ownership with mentorship and regular reviews
  • Aim for a path to full-time role at Ema for top performers

Qualifications

  • Final-year undergraduates, MSc/MEng and PhD students, recent graduates and self-taught builders welcome
  • Strong engineering fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, clean code in Python, Go or similar
  • Depth in chosen track (Backend: services/APIs/data modelling; AI/ML: ML fundamentals, PyTorch, LLM systems/evals; Systems & Infra: Linux, containers, cloud, networking)
  • Honest measurement mindset: define done/better before building; prefer clean experiments over hunches
  • Clear communication skills (writing and speaking)
  • Ability to work in a large production codebase
  • Right to work in the UK for duration of residency
