About the role

Senior Android Software Engineer role in Reddit's Consumer Engineering organization, focusing on building and scaling native Android experiences for discovering, consuming, creating, and engaging with Reddit content and communities. Centralized across multiple high-impact consumer teams with emphasis on architecture, performance, accessibility, and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Build and evolve user-facing Android experiences that help people discover, consume, create, and engage with content and communities.
  • Lead projects through the full development lifecycle, from product definition and technical design to implementation, experimentation, launch, and ongoing improvement.
  • Partner with product, design, data science, ML, backend, and platform teams to shape strategy, translate technical capabilities into intuitive experiences, and deliver measurable user impact.
  • Improve Android architecture, performance, reliability, accessibility, developer workflows, and engineering standards while mentoring teammates and driving cross-functional technical initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Professional experience developing native Android applications with Kotlin and a strong understanding of Android frameworks and application architecture.
  • Ability to write idiomatic, readable, reusable, and testable code, with strong skills in debugging, performance optimization, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Experience designing mobile systems and interfaces, evaluating architectural tradeoffs, and building scalable features from APIs through user-facing UI.
  • Experience with experimentation, feature flags, instrumentation, analytics, and product or quality-of-experience metrics. Familiarity with Jetpack Compose, Android accessibility, Media3 or ExoPlayer, MediaCodec, HLS or DASH, recommendation systems, or ML-integrated products is a plus.
