About the role

Technical owner of the Commerce frontend across HighLevel, responsible for architecture, standards, performance, accessibility, and quality. Combines Commerce-specific leadership with broader HighLevel frontend platform collaboration in an individual contributor, staff-level role.

Responsibilities

  • Publish the Commerce frontend standard: architecture, state, data fetching, testing, accessibility, and performance for all Commerce teams.
  • Instrument real-user monitoring on every Commerce surface and publish field metrics (LCP, INP, CLS) per surface with owning teams.
  • Review frontend pull requests across Commerce to raise quality and document patterns for scalable reviews.
  • Map the central frontend platform roadmap to Commerce needs and establish a working contract between Commerce and the platform team.
  • Set up ongoing design reviews with the central platform team to maintain alignment between Commerce and platform decisions.
  • Produce a frontend hiring plan detailing how many engineers, at what levels, and in what order.
  • Ship architecture enabling Commerce teams to independently build and deploy surfaces with enforced module boundaries.
  • Put performance and bundle budgets in CI for every Commerce route and treat regressions as failures.
  • Make accessibility a gate with automated CI checks and manual audits on checkout/storefront flows (WCAG 2.2 AA).
  • Land typed, generated API clients end to end to catch backend contract changes at compile time.
  • Contribute at least one Commerce-built capability to the central platform adopted by another organization.
  • Hire and onboard the first Commerce frontend engineers.
  • Lead or co-lead HighLevel-wide frontend decisions with the central platform team (RFCs) and drive Commerce standards across the company.
  • Operate Commerce storefronts that meet Core Web Vitals targets and WCAG 2.2 AA, while ensuring backend engineers ship compatible frontend features.

Qualifications

  • 9+ years of experience in building frontend systems
  • Built commerce surfaces at scale: storefronts, checkout, or point of sale
  • Built or led a design system consumed by many teams and shipped breaking changes safely
  • Used ConnectRPC, gRPC-Web, or protocol buffers from the browser
  • Read and write Go well enough to build or review a backend-for-frontend
  • Contributed to open source, web standards discussions, or the frontend community
  • Taught backend engineers to ship good frontend code
  • Contributed to a shared frontend platform or design system used by several product organizations
