About the role

Platform Engineer responsible for building and scaling infrastructure behind Plasmidsaurus’ global lab network, spanning networking, hardware, cloud, automation, and security to enable multi-lab sequencing capacity and reliable scientific results.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and scale global lab networks across 10 labs, including network design, reliability, pfSense, MikroTik, HA firewalls, VLANs, DHCP/DNS, Tailscale, and inter-site connectivity
  • Architect and deploy networking for new labs and expansions (rack/switch infra, 10Gb connectivity to storage)
  • Automate network provisioning and configuration with Terraform, Ansible, and CI/CD
  • Build and improve production hardware infrastructure (sequencers, robots, lab instruments, GPU clusters, storage) with strong connectivity, observability, and scalability
  • Build and maintain secure, automated device identity and access systems (PKI, AWS IAM Roles Anywhere, SSH)
  • Own and strengthen security of cloud infra, web apps, and APIs through testing, red teaming, and collaboration with Product Engineering
  • Lead vulnerability management across cloud, lab devices, and dependencies (scanning, patching, secrets management)
  • Lead technical security incident response from detection to postmortems
  • Operate with high autonomy, ownership, and strong collaboration while focusing on reliability and security

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
  • 7+ years in platform/infrastructure/systems/security engineering, ideally in physical production environments
  • Experience automating infrastructure with Python, Terraform, Ansible, and CI/CD (GitHub Actions) with network device provisioning
  • Deep networking expertise (routing, VLANs, firewalls, DHCP/DNS, VPNs, Tailscale); pfSense or MikroTik experience preferred
  • Hands-on AWS experience (VPC, site-to-cloud, IAM, ECS/Lambda)
  • Excellent Linux administration skills (services, deployments, containers, infra configuration)
  • Security engineering experience (web/API pentesting/red teaming, vulnerability scanning, incident response)
  • Ownership of production reliability including on-call, complex failure diagnosis, rapid restoration
  • Experience using AI coding agents across software lifecycle including automation and security testing
  • PKI/certificate management and secrets management experience (internal CAs, ACME, AWS Private CA)
  • Experience building observability for fleets of production devices and services (metrics, logging, alerting)
