About the role

Senior procurement leader responsible for third-party spend across cloud infrastructure, enterprise SaaS, professional services, travel and expense, and for shaping end-to-end procure-to-pay processes at Benchling.

Responsibilities

  • Lead vendor negotiation and renewals for our largest and most strategic agreements, including cloud infrastructure and enterprise SaaS providers.
  • Structure deals with usage-based and committed-spend pricing, multi-year terms, price protections, and exit and data portability rights.
  • Enhance renewal management process with business owners and Strategic Finance to avoid surprise pricing.
  • Develop category strategies for major spend areas to consolidate vendors, inform renewal strategies, and optimize software spend.
  • Design and implement a third-party vendor risk program in collaboration with security and other stakeholders.
  • Build leverage by enabling business owners to negotiate effectively on their own.
  • Advise on procurement in additional categories such as benefits, large events, real estate, and contingent workforce vendors.
  • Lead process excellence by setting direction, evolving processes with stakeholder teams, and applying AI/automation to procurement workflows.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years in procurement, strategic sourcing, or vendor management, preferably at technology or SaaS companies
  • Negotiation expertise with a track record of substantial, measurable savings in complex, high-stakes deals (large cloud infrastructure commitments and multi-year SaaS agreements)
  • Reputation as a trusted business partner balancing commercial results with stakeholder needs and long-term vendor relationships
  • Ability to understand business needs and align solutions with product vision
  • Leading-practice procurement process design with experience in AI/automation
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills at executive level with data-driven value storytelling
  • Experience designing third-party risk processes with Security, Legal, and Compliance partners
  • Familiarity with Zip, Navan, NetSuite, or similar platforms
  • Comfort working independently on both strategy and execution
  • Differentiating: CPSM, CIPS, or similar procurement certification
  • Nice to have: experience in life sciences or biotech
