About the role

Senior Software Engineer on the Streams UI team (Fleet and Streams) at Elastic, focusing on frontend UI components, architecture discussions, and end-to-end ownership to enhance observability tooling and data handling in Kibana.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement intuitive user interface components using TypeScript, React, and Node.js; integrate front-end with back-end services; conduct usability testing and gather user feedback.
  • Own complex, loosely-defined problems end-to-end: shape the approach, split work, make key technical decisions, deliver.
  • Lead discussions on architecture and system design with attention to trade-offs, backwards compatibility, performance, and scale.
  • Establish coding standards, promote reusable components, implement automated testing and deployment, evaluate new technologies, and document best practices.
  • Conduct thorough code reviews, ensure coding standards and security considerations, maintain readability, and facilitate team discussions.
  • Collaborate asynchronously across timezones with a distributed team, working on GitHub and Slack.
  • Partner with designers and product managers to translate mockups into UI components and ensure a consistent visual design.

Qualifications

  • Solid production experience with full-stack JavaScript (preferably TypeScript); React on the frontend and Node.js on the backend; experience with Reactflow is a plus.
  • Track record of leading non-trivial projects end-to-end with design ownership and minimal guidance.
  • Strong architecture and system-design judgment, especially in large codebases.
  • Experience designing and launching multiple UI components that increase user commitment.
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; strong collaboration and knowledge-sharing skills.
  • Generalist mindset with a user-focused approach and desire to uplift teammates.
