AI Engineering Lead at AIOS — Remote, $200-$400k/yr + equity
About the role
Senior technical leadership role to build the AIOS Agent SDK and underpin world-class agents for a remote, fully-remote company developing an autonomous AI medical platform.
Responsibilities
- - Agent SDK: turn the customer-support tool harness into the internal platform powering Jesse, Aegis, and future AIOS agents; own architecture, primitives, extension points, DX, and integration.
- - Jesse & Aegis: senior technical owner, improve systems, extract shared foundations across context, retrieval, memory, orchestration, tools, state, and escalation.
- - Evals & Experimentation: build trustworthy benchmarks, establish path from offline evaluation to controlled production experiments.
- - Production Learning Loop: translate traces and outcomes into better evals, architecture, models, and platform capabilities.
- - Safety & Compliance: ensure safety through authorization, validation, idempotency, auditability, recovery, and regional/privacy requirements.
- - Models & Economics: own model selection, routing, fallbacks, caching; lead data prep, fine-tuning, evaluation, and deployment of open-weight models when warranted.
- - Reliability: own shared runtime in production, tracing, observability, testing, capacity, incident response.
- - Technical Leadership: set AIOS’s AI architecture and strategy with VP of Engineering; write production code and build foundational components.
- - Build the Team: inherit one engineer and grow Applied AI team to ~5 in first year; manage relationships with model providers and external representation.
Qualifications
- - 8+ years of software engineering experience and active production contributor.
- - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or closely related field.
- - Experience building and shipping an exceptional agentic system used by real customers (multi-step reasoning, tool use, state changes, production constraints).
- - Deep understanding of harnesses, orchestration, context construction, retrieval, memory, state, tool design, workflows, and error recovery.
- - Experience with evaluation systems for probabilistic products; data construction, simulations, metrics, and production-outcome linkage.
- - Strong systems engineering fundamentals: APIs, distributed systems, concurrency, queues, databases, observability, reliability.
- - Ability to reason about safe agent actions: authorization, validation, idempotency, state transitions, auditability, recovery, escalation.
- - Knowledge of frontier/open-weight models and when to deploy them; willingness to lead fine-tuning and deployment when justified.
- - Proven leadership of a small engineering team; ability to set direction and raise quality.
- - Technical authority: capable of making hard calls and communicating trade-offs clearly.
- - Clear communicator with engineers, product leaders, clinicians, and executives.
- - Independent, proactive builder who writes production code and leads from inside the work.

About AIOS
Building AI-native infrastructure for the next era of care.
Our overarching mission is to build the AI operating system for consumer healthcare - delivering end-to-end care with near-zero marginal human time. We believe the future of healthcare is automated, intelligent, radically lower cost, and built around the consumer. We believe biology is entering a golden age. We believe profitable, focused companies beat bloated ones. We're determined to get the humans out of healthcare - replacing slow, expensive, legacy workflows with software-driven care delivered at scale. We’ve started by building this infrastructure to power our own brands - including Bolt Pharmacy and Fella Health, among others. Today, that infrastructure is helping patients access life-changing treatment for excess bodyweight. Over time, we’ll extend it across many of the categories that will define the next era of healthcare. Our infrastructure will have served 100 million patients worldwide by 2035. We’ll then use that infrastructure to deliver next-generation healthcare products at massive scale. In doing so, we aim to build the world’s first trillion-dollar healthcare company.
