About the role
Technical leader role within Paraform's AI Platform Engineering team, responsible for owning and scaling the ML/Applied AI pod, advancing core ML, ranking, retrieval, and agentic systems, while maintaining hands-on technical work and delivering measurable business outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Hire, coach, and level a pod of applied AI, ML, and Product engineers.
- Own the core ML, including data and labeling strategy, feature/embedding design, model selection, training, and fine-tuning.
- Tackle the hardest modeling problems (ranking, offline eval vs production, cold-start issues) and ship fixes.
- Own matching and ranking models (retrieval, ranking, personalization) and improve revenue impact.
- Develop and maintain agentic systems (LLM-powered workflows) with emphasis on reliability and business impact.
- Ensure trust & safety through fraud/spam detection and guardrails for fair AI outputs.
- Lead evaluation frameworks to measure quality, reliability, and business impact in production.
- Balance quality, cost, and latency; decide when to use LLMs versus traditional ML for scaling usage.
- Translate business goals into quarterly roadmaps and deliver on them.
Qualifications
- Staff-level IC depth in ML or applied AI with ongoing technical leadership.
- 1+ years managing or formally tech-leading engineers (Tech Lead Manager) or 4+ years including cross-team technical direction (Technical Director).
- Shipped production ML or LLM systems at scale (retrieval, ranking, recommendation, agentic workflows).
- Eval-driven: ability to measure model quality against business outcomes, not just offline benchmarks.
- Data-fluent: proficient with SQL, experiment readouts, and metric validation.
