About the role
Model Validation Manager responsible for leading validations across Starling's model portfolio, including AI/ML and traditional models, and contributing to model risk governance and reporting.
Responsibilities
- Act as a senior escalation point for complex validation challenges, fostering technical excellence and guiding conversations with model developers and senior leadership to ensure robust risk management practices.
- Support validations of diverse model types used across Starling, including AI/ML models and traditional models such as IFRS 9, Forecasting, and Operational Risk.
- Contribute to Model and AI risk governance framework development and enhancements.
- Produce and review validation reports, coordinating with model developers and owners to ensure findings are understood and addressed within timelines.
- Lead on Risk Assurance reviews.
- Produce committee papers and present at committees.
- Present high-level validation findings to Senior leadership.
- Engage and build close relationships with key stakeholders to enable effective model risk management throughout the model lifecycle.
Qualifications
- Graduate-level education preferred, ideally in a numerical discipline (or equivalent work experience).
- Proven track record of building, mentoring, and managing high-performing technical teams of quantitative analysts, with ability to coach staff through complex AI and traditional model validations.
- Extensive experience overseeing a broad portfolio of model types, with deep hands-on expertise in validating advanced AI/ML algorithms and strong proficiency in traditional risk models (e.g., IFRS 9, Forecasting, Operational Risk).
- Expert in analytical tools such as Python/R/SQL/SAS and spreadsheets.
