About the role

Databricks is seeking a strategic, technical Compensation Lead to partner with R&D founders and Engineering leadership to design first-principles equity and cash strategies for attracting, retaining, and motivating engineers in core tech areas like systems, platform, and AI.

Responsibilities

  • R&D Solutioning & Strategic Advisory (40%): Co-create custom incentive models, specialized technical compensation structures, and high-impact retention frameworks tailored to hyper-competitive R&D skill sets.
  • Lifecycle Compensation Management (30%): Own end-to-end execution of merit, refresh equity, and promotion cycles across global engineering cohorts; advisor for strategic executive hires and retention scenarios; build and leverage automation and AI solutions for complex cases.
  • Enterprise Framework Development (30%): Scale global compensation structure; refine market pricing models, pay-for-performance mechanics, and equity strategies.

Qualifications

  • Technical Domain Depth: Deep understanding of competitive landscape for core engineering, infrastructure, and AI/ML talent; experience with startup equity structures and tech-sector refresh strategies.
  • First-Principles Thinking: Ability to build custom, business-aligned compensation solutions from scratch.
  • Advanced Analytics: Proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets; experience with SQL, Python, Tableau or AI-driven analytics is a strong plus.
  • Executive Partnership & Scale: Trusted advisory with founders and executive leadership on high-stakes pay decisions, M&A integrations, and critical offers.
  • Scalable Operations: Experience building scalable compensation solutions across complex systems.
