About the role

Backend-focused engineering role at 9fin, involving technical leadership on projects, designing systems, API development, data routing/processing, and automation within a Python-based backend stack.

Responsibilities

  • Take on technical leadership on projects, defining and designing systems, making quick proof of concepts and working closely with Product and clients
  • Write code and lead others in delivering new service functionality, implementing APIs, data routing/processing and automation mechanisms
  • Development and engineering primarily on the backend services and web application hosted tools and systems of the 9fin platform
  • Take a leading role within project teams as an IC, running code reviews and mentoring junior developers, involvement in early research and experimentation with new technologies providing input for new features and products
  • Continually improve on the 9fin codebase by automating, refactoring and documenting when possible
  • Work across diverse platforms including complex financial data modelling, environmental/energy data capture, ML/AI prediction services, data visualization, and automation systems
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including financial, legal and editorial colleagues to ensure high-quality engineering outcomes
  • Enhance Developer Experience with managed automated preview environments, feature flags and non-production environments

Qualifications

  • Experience with Python and its web frameworks (Flask; moving to FastAPI with Typing)
  • Strong experience delivering APIs and Service Oriented Architecture
  • Good working knowledge of SQL statements for data retrieval
  • Strong collaboration and communication with cross-functional teams within 9fin
  • Code quality: writing testable, maintainable code and engaging in code reviews
