About the role

Architect and own the core data processing engine for Snowflake's Data Transformation capabilities, delivering stateful streaming, incremental maintenance, and distributed orchestration to support agentic AI workloads at massive scale with sub-second state propagation and strong transactional guarantees.

Responsibilities

  • Architect Foundation Primitives for Agentic AI Data Engineering: Design internal engines for Dynamic Tables, Streams, and Tasks, ensuring elastic, serverless foundations for real-time agentic reasoning.
  • Build the Data Transformation Processing Fabric: Develop low-level infrastructure for automated triggers and incremental processing logic to autonomously manage, optimize, and process data.
  • Innovate in System Internals: Drive long-term roadmap for stateful streaming and a freshness-first architecture for model-ready data.
  • Displace Legacy Orchestration Layers: Create native Snowflake processing capabilities to reduce external schedulers and simplify architecture.
  • Engineer for Global Scale and Governance: Build reliable, multi-tenant internals handling exabytes of data with strong isolation, security, and consistency.
  • Drive Technical Strategy for the AI Era: Provide leadership shaping Snowflake’s compute fabric to support MCP, autonomous agent ecosystems, and Python/Spark workflows.
  • Drive Customer Success through Direct Engagement: Collaborate with strategic customers and field teams to translate scale challenges into engine requirements.
  • Ensure Operational Excellence: Ensure reliability, availability, and performance commitments for services.

Qualifications

  • 14+ years of industry experience building database systems internals, distributed systems internals, or large-scale data processing engines.
  • Strong Technical Leadership: Broad architectural direction, mentoring, and cross-functional decision-making across teams.
  • Mastery of Systems Programming: Stateful stream processing, incremental view maintenance, distributed transactions, and query execution internals.
  • Infrastructure-First Mindset: Systems builder focused on engine/OS-like components rather than end-user pipelines.
  • Distributed Systems Expertise: Experience with consensus, replication, and high-concurrency at cloud scale.
  • Ecosystem Awareness: Understanding of limitations of traditional orchestration/tools and vision for native Snowflake design.
  • Collaborative Leadership: Ability to operate in a globally distributed environment and mentor engineers.
