Senior Software Engineer, Lending Platform

About the role

Architect, design, and implement large-scale, secure, and scalable systems for Airwallex’s lending platform. Build robust services and secure APIs for embedding credit products, lead design reviews, mentor engineers, and drive reliability, scalability, and security at a global enterprise scale.

Responsibilities

  • Own the design and delivery of robust services that power lending and credit products.
  • Build secure, scalable, and well-documented APIs that enable clients to embed and consume credit products within their own offerings.
  • Lead design reviews, advise on systems architecture, and mentor engineers to raise the bar on code quality and technical excellence.
  • Drive resilient distributed-systems design and engineering practices that support reliability, scalability, and security at global enterprise scale.
  • Improve platform stability and delivery efficiency through automated testing, code review, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver effective lending solutions and stay close to industry trends that can strengthen the platform.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree or above in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in software engineering, with strong exposure to modern engineering practices, continuous integration, and quality engineering.
  • At least 2 years in a technical leadership role, mentoring engineers and leading the definition and execution of engineering strategy.
  • A strong computer science foundation and object-oriented programming skills, with proven experience building backend systems.
  • Experience with Java or Kotlin and the Spring / Spring Boot framework, or strong transferable experience in another backend language and framework.
  • Extensive experience designing and building RESTful APIs, with familiarity with modern API design principles and tools.
  • Experience with domain-driven design and event-driven architectures in production environments.
  • A track record of designing and maintaining high-throughput, low-latency, highly available distributed systems at scale.
  • Cloud experience with GCP or AWS, including services such as EC2, RDS, ELB, or CloudFront, together with Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Familiarity with observability tooling such as Splunk, Grafana, and Prometheus.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver effective lending or financial technology solutions.
  • A commitment to robust automated testing, code review, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
