About the role

Software Engineer II to envision, design, and deliver Microsoft 365 government cloud service offerings for sovereign cloud customers; focus on large-scale distributed services with high quality, security, reliability, and performance.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates expertise in distributed systems design, cloud technology layers, and scalable infrastructure; modify code to improve reliability and operability with minimal guidance.
  • Develops understanding of product code/features at scale to contribute to improvements in availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance; participate in onboarding, code/design reviews, and regular meetings.
  • Researches industry trends in distributed systems and cloud technologies; contribute to new solutions within the team.
  • Leverages telemetry data to suggest changes or additions to features or code to improve product components.
  • Develops and tests basic changes to optimize code and improve observability, reliability, and operability.
  • Engages with product engineering teams via code/design reviews, on-call rotations, and incident responses to propose improvements.
  • Independently develops automation for repetitive operations (monitoring, alerting, deployments) across components.
  • Uses telemetry analysis to identify changes to configurations/data for production platforms.
  • Identifies opportunities to leverage tooling to increase deployment velocity while maintaining safety.
  • Designs and maintains telemetry pipelines and monitoring tools; analyzes operations metrics and shares insights with teams.
  • Troubleshoots issues affecting availability, reliability, performance, and efficiency; proposes solutions to prevent recurrence.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in C/C++/C#/Java/JavaScript/Python or equivalent experience.
