About the role

Senior JVM-focused software engineer owning and maintaining ClickHouse’s data engineering connectors and integrations, with emphasis on high-performance streaming, data frameworks, and developer experience within the JVM ecosystem.

Responsibilities

  • Own the full lifecycle of data framework integrations—from core database drivers to SDKs and connectors that enable ClickHouse to feel native in JVM-based applications.
  • Contribute to high-performance database engineering and developer experience for data engineers processing massive datasets.
  • Collaborate with open-source community, internal teams, and enterprise users to ensure JVM integrations meet standards for performance, reliability, and UX.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of software development experience focusing on data-intensive solutions
  • Proven experience with streaming or data integration frameworks, with strong preference for Apache Kafka (or similar pub/sub systems), Kafka Connect, Apache Flink or Apache Beam
  • Experience developing or extending connectors, sinks, or sources for at least one streaming processing framework (Flink, Beam, Kafka Connect)
  • Hands-on experience with Apache Kafka or similar distributed messaging systems (Pulsar, Kinesis)
  • Strong understanding of SQL, data modeling, query optimization, OLAP/analytical databases
  • Track record of building scalable data integration systems (beyond simple ETL jobs)
  • Strong proficiency in Java and JVM ecosystem (memory management, GC tuning, performance profiling)
  • Experience with concurrent programming in Java (threads, executors, reactive/async patterns)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Understanding of JDBC, network protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP), data throughput optimization
  • Passion for open-source development
