About the role

Senior Software Engineer specializing in JVM-based frameworks, owning and maintaining critical parts of ClickHouse's Data engineering ecosystem, with focus on data framework integrations, connectors, and performance for distributed streaming systems.

Responsibilities

  • Own the full lifecycle of data framework integrations - from the core database driver to SDKs and connectors.
  • Develop and maintain production-grade streaming connectors, sinks, or sources for frameworks such as Apache Flink, Beam, or Kafka Connect.
  • Collaborate with open-source community, internal teams, and enterprise users to ensure JVM integrations are high-performance, reliable, and developer-friendly.
  • Contribute to high-performance database engineering and developer experience for data engineers handling massive datasets.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of software development experience focusing on data-intensive solutions.
  • Strong experience with streaming or data integration frameworks; preference for Apache Kafka (or similar pub/sub), Kafka Connect, Apache Flink, or Apache Beam.
  • Experience developing or extending connectors for streaming processing frameworks (Flink, Beam, Kafka Connect); preference for production-grade streaming connectors.
  • Hands-on experience with Apache Kafka or similar distributed messaging systems (e.g., Pulsar, Kinesis).
  • Strong understanding of database fundamentals: SQL, data modeling, query optimization, OLAP/analytical databases.
  • Track record of building scalable data integration systems beyond simple ETL jobs.
  • Strong proficiency in Java and JVM ecosystem, memory management, GC tuning, performance profiling.
  • Experience with concurrent programming in Java, including threads, executors, and reactive/ asynchronous patterns.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Understanding of JDBC, network protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP), and data throughput optimization.
  • Passion for open-source development.
