About the role

Senior Software Engineer specializing in JVM-based frameworks responsible for owning and maintaining critical parts of ClickHouse's Data engineering ecosystem, focusing on data framework integrations, connectors, and high-performance JVM-based tooling.

Responsibilities

  • Own the full lifecycle of data framework integrations—from core database driver handling billions of records per second to SDKs and connectors that make ClickHouse native in JVM-based applications.
  • Build and maintain connectors, sinks, or sources for streaming processing frameworks (e.g., Apache Flink, Beam, Kafka Connect) with production-grade quality.
  • Collaborate with open-source communities, internal teams, and enterprise users to ensure JVM integrations meet performance, reliability, and developer experience standards.
  • Develop tools enabling Data Engineers to leverage ClickHouse’s speed and scale in real-time analytics, data ingestion, and observability use cases.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of software development experience focused on building data-intensive solutions.
  • Proven experience with streaming or data integration frameworks, with strong preference for Apache Kafka (or similar pub/sub systems), Kafka Connect, Apache Flink or Apache Beam.
  • Experience developing or extending connectors, sinks, or sources for at least one streaming processing framework (e.g., Apache Flink, Beam, Kafka Connect).
  • Hands-on experience with Apache Kafka or similar distributed messaging systems (e.g., Pulsar, Kinesis).
  • Strong understanding of database fundamentals: SQL, data modeling, query optimization, and OLAP/analytical databases.
  • Track record of building scalable data integration systems beyond simple ETL jobs.
  • Strong proficiency in Java and JVM ecosystem, including memory management, GC tuning, and performance profiling.
  • Experience with concurrent programming in Java (threads, executors, reactive/async patterns).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for collaboration across teams.
  • Understanding of JDBC, network protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP), and data throughput optimization.
