About the role

Senior JVM-focused engineer responsible for owning and maintaining ClickHouse's data engineering ecosystem, delivering production-grade streaming connectors and integrations for JVM-based applications.

Responsibilities

  • Own the full lifecycle of data framework integrations—from core database driver to SDKs and connectors that enable ClickHouse to feel native in JVM-based applications
  • Develop and maintain high-performance, scalable data connectors, sinks, and sources for streaming frameworks (e.g., Kafka Connect, Flink, Beam)
  • Collaborate with open-source communities, internal teams, and enterprise users to ensure performance, reliability, and developer experience
  • Work on low-level database integrations and high-level visualization/plugin integrations that bridge ClickHouse with the data ecosystem

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of software development experience focusing on data-intensive solutions
  • Strong preference for Apache Kafka, Kafka Connect, Apache Flink, or Apache Beam experience
  • Experience developing or extending connectors for streaming frameworks (Flink, Beam, Kafka Connect) with production-grade focus
  • Hands-on experience with Apache Kafka or similar distributed messaging systems (Pulsar, Kinesis)
  • Strong understanding of SQL, data modeling, query optimization, OLAP/analytical databases
  • Proficiency in Java and JVM ecosystem, including memory management, GC tuning, and performance profiling
  • Experience with concurrent programming in Java (threads, executors, reactive/async patterns)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Understanding of JDBC, network protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP), and data throughput optimization
  • Passion for open-source development
