Commercial Account Executive
San Francisco, CA$200k - $275kFull-timePosted 4mo ago
About the role
Commercial Account Executive responsible for the full sales cycle within the sub-250 employee segment, combining inbound, product-led, and self-serve accounts with deep technical engagement to convert engineers and technical founders into customers.
Responsibilities
- Own the full sales cycle from inbound lead to close for accounts in the sub-250 employee segment, with a focus on speed, technical depth, and conversion quality.
- Engage with data engineers, platform architects, and technical founders to understand use cases, data volumes, query patterns, and infrastructure requirements, and map those to ClickHouse capabilities.
- Troubleshoot schema design questions, ingestion patterns, and integration challenges during evaluation; act as a trusted technical advisor rather than a traditional sales rep.
- Identify expansion opportunities within existing self-serve and product-led customer base; convert usage signals into commercial relationships.
- Partner with Solutions Engineers on complex evaluations; advocate for customer needs internally with Product and Engineering.
- Maintain rigorous pipeline hygiene — documenting technical context, decision criteria, stakeholders, and next steps in Salesforce.
- Contribute to playbooks, technical objection handling guides, and onboarding materials.
- Participate in developer communities, technical meetups, and online forums where users gather.
Qualifications
- Technical foundation in engineering or closely related technical field (data engineer, solutions engineer/architect, software engineer, or similar).
- Comfort with modern data stack (columnar databases, streaming ingestion, cloud infrastructure, SQL-heavy analytics). Hands-on experience with ClickHouse, DuckDB, Druid, Pinot, BigQuery, Snowflake, or similar is a strong plus.
- Customer-facing experience in pre-sales, technical account management, solutions engineering, or customer success.
- Ability to move quickly in short sales cycles; remove technical blockers and drive urgency without being pushy.
- Strong written and verbal communication; ability to simplify complex concepts for engineers.
- Curiosity about business motivations behind technology purchases.
- Ownership mindset and autonomy; able to make judgments without a playbook.
