About the role

Staff Engineer role at Rippling focusing on building an autonomous operating system for work, bridging core platform infrastructure with end-user execution to enable Rippling AI across multiple channels and developer ecosystems.

Responsibilities

  • Own Omni-Channel Frameworks: Architect shared, channel-specific logic and infrastructure for Rippling AI across Slack, Teams, Email, CLI, and native desktop shells.
  • Engineer the Developer Experience (DevX): Design robust APIs, abstractions, and contract interfaces for other internal engineering teams to embed native AI elements into applications.
  • Transform Interactive UX Primitives: Lead evolution of the chat runtime into high-performance, dynamic UI components (e.g., streaming interactive maps, interactive tables, visual workflows) inside the response frame.
  • Partner on Agent Lifecycle Observability: Collaborate with Automation and Agent teams to design frontend primitives for background execution engines, securely rendering and auditing system states, admin settings, and conversation histories.
  • Drive Cross-Functional Pods: Lead distributed technical initiatives connecting SF platform engineering with core infrastructure teams globally.
  • Champion AI-Native Engineering: Establish best practices for AI-assisted software development and mentor engineers on leveraging LLM tools to maximize velocity and code quality.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience with a strong backend-leaning fullstack foundation and history of shipping high-scale, platform-level capabilities.
  • Experience building scalable, reusable framework architectures for internal engineering teams, or guiding zero-to-one customer-facing applications through high-growth scale cycles.
  • Focus on product experience, technical abstractions, and code durability; ability to build unified solutions handling complex state across multiple communication protocols.
  • Proven ability to navigate ambiguity, drive technical consensus across multi-product matrices, and execute with blitz-scale velocity.
  • Passionate, daily power user of AI frontier toolchains (Claude, Cursor, Codex) and able to upskill peers in these technologies.
  • Exceptional communication skills and ability to convey technical details to non-technical stakeholders.
