About the role

Senior Backend Engineer focused on building integrations and APIs for home energy devices (batteries, solar, HVAC, smart meters) and unifying telemetry and controls through Enode's Home Energy stack. Role emphasizes AI-enabled development, reliability, and end-to-end ownership from design to production.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain integrations with OEM cloud platforms across batteries, solar, smart meters, and HVAC.
  • Design and evolve our home energy APIs, unifying telemetry and controls across HEM system, batteries, and curtailment into a product surface customers can build optimizations on.
  • Build with AI as a normal part of how you work, and turn what you learn into tools, skills and processes the rest of the team picks up.
  • Improve observability and vendor performance across our integrations, and take part in the team's triage rotation.
  • Work with partnership and commercial teams on API feasibility for new OEM integrations.
  • Build strong relationships with the customers who rely on our platform, working alongside your PM and commercial partners, and let what you learn from them shape what we build.
  • Debug and ship production features in Node/TypeScript on our AWS-based stack.
  • Take a product-engineer mindset, balancing speed, quality, and customer impact in your day-to-day decisions.

Qualifications

  • Experience building and maintaining backend services in production, ideally in API or integration-heavy systems.
  • Fluency with AI in day-to-day engineering work, understanding its benefits and limits.
  • Strong skills in designing for reliability, scalability, and performance.
  • Ability to own work from initial scoping to production rollout.
  • Comfort in fast-moving, ambiguous environments with collaborative problem-solving.
  • Clear, thoughtful communication across engineering, product, and customer-facing teams.
  • A product mindset focused on solving the right problems for customers and teammates.
