About the role
Senior AI Researcher focusing on applying LLMs, deep learning, and advanced AI techniques to high-stakes legal domain challenges, translating research into production features.
Responsibilities
- Own a research roadmap end-to-end: identifying problems, designing experiments, prototyping, and shipping winners into production with the engineering team.
- Advance the core AI platform: design and implement novel approaches for reasoning over long-context legal corpora, contract comparison and redlining, information extraction, and automated drafting and editing.
- Make models trustworthy: research procedural hallucination detection and resolution, calibration, and explainability; push frontier techniques into production; apply fine-tuning, PEFT, and distillation for legal-specific tasks; evaluate agentic systems, long-context modeling, and reasoning.
- Build the evaluation infrastructure: design and maintain datasets, benchmarks, and evals for training and measuring model performance on complex legal text; define metrics.
- Ship: collaborate with Engineering and Product to move prototypes to production, write internal reports, and present findings to technical and non-technical audiences.
Qualifications
- A Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related quantitative field — or equivalent industry research experience with a comparable track record.
- Evidence of exceptional ability (paper, shipped system, open-source contribution, competition result, or hard problem solved).
- Deep, hands-on experience in deep learning research and development, particularly with LLMs; strong working knowledge of PyTorch, JAX, or TensorFlow.
- Expertise in at least one of: agentic systems, reasoning, PEFT, quantization, inference optimization (e.g., speculative decoding), hallucination mitigation, novel DL architectures, or robust evaluation for LLMs.
- Excellent communication skills to articulate complex findings to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Bias toward action: ship -> prototype today, measure -> data-driven, prefer working prototype over polished plan.
