About the role
ML Engineer at Match Group AI owning end-to-end ML projects that impact multiple Match Group apps (Tinder, Hinge, Azar, Pairs, Match, BLK, and more) with a focus on shaping problems, defining success metrics, designing models and data, and collaborating across global teams.
Responsibilities
- Shape the Problem: convert broad goals into concrete ML problems and determine scope.
- Define What Success Means: translate goals into measurable metrics and evaluation criteria (online and offline).
- Design the Model and the Data Behind It: select modeling approaches, design data collection and processing pipelines, and feedback loops for production learning.
- Collaborate Across Teams: work with engineers, product partners, and brand teams across Seoul, Palo Alto, LA, Vancouver, Dallas, Tokyo to align stakeholders and surface blockers early.
Qualifications
- Project Ownership (most important): experience owning an ML project end-to-end, including planning and coordinating work to deliver measurable results.
- Depth in AI/ML: strong foundation with deep knowledge in at least one domain and relevant project experience.
- Problem Definition and Technical Judgment: ability to turn business/technical goals into solvable ML problems and make reasonable technical choices under uncertainty.
- Data Literacy: ability to perform exploratory data analysis and shape approaches based on data properties.
- ML Frameworks and Tooling: proficiency in Python and frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or JAX, with ability to quickly learn new tools.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: experience working with multiple functions and keeping stakeholders aligned.
- English proficiency (professional working): able to conduct business meetings and participate in complex discussions.
- Korean fluency: native-level precision for cross-functional collaboration in Seoul.
- Global Operational Readiness: willingness to accommodate flexible working hours for syncs with US teams.
