Principal Research Engineer

Microsoft Research Americas seeks a Principal Research Engineer to advance training, adaptation, evaluation, and improvement of foundation models, turning promising ideas into reproducible experiments and measurable improvements across research initiatives. Lead hands-on work across pretraining, continued pretraining, fine-tuning, and post-training, with emphasis on foundation model development, evaluation, and large-scale experimentation, collaborating with ML systems and infrastructure teams to scale approaches on GPU clusters. Based in Redmond, WA with an expectation of three days per week in the office.
