About the role

Samsara seeks a technically skilled AI/data engineer to lead development and maintenance of Finance’s data foundation and AI systems, transforming financial data from multiple sources into a production-grade Databricks-based environment and supporting Workday Adaptive Planning. The role combines data engineering, AI workflows, and partnership with Finance, BizTech, PeopleOps, and Accounting to improve forecasting, planning, analysis, and reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Own the data foundation and AI roadmap for Finance & Strategy — architecting the future state of Samsara's financial data and systems landscape, setting modeling strategy, and closing data/tool/process gaps while maintaining the Workday Adaptive Planning instance during transition
  • Design, build, and maintain pipelines and integrations connecting financial systems (e.g., Databricks, NetSuite, Workday, Adaptive, Salesforce) for seamless data flow, scalability, and reliability
  • Build agentic-first close and extend AI-powered tools and automations across core finance processes — forecasting and scenario planning, variance and driver analysis, headcount/workforce planning, and management reporting
  • Lead cross-functional alignment across Finance, BizTech, PeopleOps, Accounting and beyond on system workstreams that span teams
  • Evaluate and implement emerging technologies, stay current on AI, automation, and data infrastructure innovations, identify opportunities for efficiency
  • Formalize data modeling and infrastructure best practices, enable end users via documentation, training, support, and troubleshooting
  • Build with governance in mind — data quality standards and access controls, measure impact on close cycle time and forecast accuracy
  • Champion Samsara’s cultural principles in scale and global expansion

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Engineering, Information Systems, Finance/Accounting, or comparable work experience
  • 8+ years of experience building and scaling production-grade data pipelines, integrations, and enterprise applications
  • Hands-on experience with large language model (LLM) applications, including prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation, agentic workflows, and evaluation
  • Proficiency in Python for scripting, data manipulation, and API interactions
  • Experience with SQL databases, data modeling and query optimization
  • Experience with data platforms/warehouses (e.g., Databricks, Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift) and with enterprise systems (e.g., NetSuite, Workday, Adaptive, Salesforce, Google Workspace, Slack)
  • Working knowledge of financial planning, forecasting, and close processes
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders
