About the role

Senior leadership role overseeing Safety AI platform and features for Samsara’s AI dash cameras, focusing on end-to-end ML/CV systems, edge-cloud integration, and fleet-scale deployment to improve driver safety and reduce accidents.

Responsibilities

  • Own the technical direction for on-device and cloud safety AI systems, including architectural decisions for edge vs cloud, model packaging and deployment across 2M+ dashcams, and data flywheel for continuous improvement.
  • Lead transition from individual model deployments to a system-wide platform fusing camera, IMU, GPS, and vehicle telemetry data to detect and surface safety events with high precision and low latency.
  • Evaluate and integrate emerging AI capabilities (e.g., VLMs, foundation models, multi-task architectures) for fleet-scale production deployment.
  • Partner with product and full-stack teams to define, scope, and ship safety features that reduce accident rates and improve driver coaching outcomes.
  • Lead experiment design, offline/online evaluation, and go/no-go decisions for new ML features with safety metrics.
  • Own full model lifecycle: data curation, training, evaluation (shadow/online), deployment, monitoring, and iteration.
  • Build and lead a high-performing team of applied scientists and engineers across CV, sensor fusion, and edge ML.
  • Hire, coach, and develop senior ICs and early-career talent; create growth paths across technical and leadership tracks.
  • Operate as a tech lead manager, setting architectural direction while reviewing modeling approaches and unblock decisions.
  • Champion Samsara’s cultural principles and scale the team globally.
  • Demonstrate customer-centric mindset and focus on delivering measurable customer value.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in applied ML or computer vision with production deployment experience.
  • 5+ years leading technical teams of scientists and engineers, including senior ICs.
  • Experience shipping CV and/or sensor fusion systems that fuse camera, IMU, GPS, and telemetry data in production.
  • Ability to balance platform integrity with research velocity and communicate trade-offs clearly.
  • Experience building and deploying large-scale ML systems with feedback loops for continuous improvement.
