About the role
Citizen’s Mission Control faces real-time incident verification and public communication. The Live Safety Broadcaster role combines on-air presence with live incident narration, operating from the Mission Control studio in New York, to deliver accurate, credible safety information to a large audience during major incidents.
Responsibilities
- Monitor live incident feeds, scanner audio, user video, and data streams across multiple markets.
- Verify incidents fast and accurately: confirm what's real, flag what isn't, protect against panic and misinformation.
- Author and send incident titles, updates, and push notifications that meet editorial standards.
- Coordinate with field creators, users going live, and partner responders to build a real-time picture of active scenes.
- Hold the line under pressure: stay calm, clear, and accurate while a situation is still unfolding.
- Broadcast live from the Mission Control studio during major incidents, narrating events in real time to a live audience of hundreds to thousands of users.
- Deliver clear, credible, human commentary on camera: explaining what's happening, what's verified, what's still unknown, and how the community can safely help.
- Drive live participation: prompt viewers to look around, go live, and contribute to a real-time “transparency zone.”
- Interact with the live audience: read the room, respond to comments and community reports, and keep viewers engaged without sacrificing accuracy or dignity.
- Build a following: become a recognizable, trusted on-air presence over time.
- Partner with content and social teams to turn live broadcasts into clips, highlights, and cross-platform moments.
- Help refine the on-air playbook: pacing, tone, what works on camera during a real incident, and what doesn’t.
Qualifications
- A personality that comes through on camera: warm, credible, watchable.
- Experience live streaming: comfortable on camera, unscripted, extended stretches.
- Social media savvy: understanding how live content lands and travels.
- Quick on your feet verbally; able to narrate developing situations clearly.
- Comfortable being a public face; visible by design.
- Sharp judgment under pressure; calm under stress.
- Fast, accurate, and detail-obsessed; avoids spreading rumors as facts.
- Deeply mission-aligned and respectful of real people involved in incidents.
