About the role

Senior iOS engineer responsible for owning real pieces of the Citizen iOS app, shipping with a small team, and operating with agents to improve live safety product delivery and performance in a high-traffic, real-time environment.

Responsibilities

  • Own real pieces of the Citizen iOS app (live video/broadcast, real-time alerts and map, paid experiences, operator tooling, app health and release).
  • Instrument analytics events and ensure data flows to the warehouse.
  • Work with agents to draft, review, test, and instrument iOS code; determine where agents run.
  • Operate within a driver and builder model; take ownership of initiatives and drive them end-to-end.
  • Participate in Release Captain rotations to ship weekly and manage high-priority fixes.
  • Collaborate with backend, design, product, data, and Mission Control as internal users.
  • Ship features with attention to latency, reliability, performance on real devices, and one-bar-signal behavior.

Qualifications

  • Shipped and owned a consumer iOS app used by millions.
  • Deep expertise in Swift (Swift 6) including concurrency, networking, location, push, camera and video.
  • Experience with The Composable Architecture (TCA) or comparable unidirectional architecture in a modular SPM codebase.
  • Experience running a release: CI, beta distribution, phased rollout, crash triage, hotfixes.
  • Experience with real-time or live media; understanding latency and network impact on user experience.
  • Experience building with AI in developer workflows; familiarity with agents and automation.
  • Strong measurement and instrumentation discipline; ensuring events land in the data warehouse.
  • High agency and proactive ownership mindset.
  • Willingness to work in New York, on-site, every day.
