About the role

Microsoft Senior Data Center Technician (DCT) responsible for installing, diagnosing, troubleshooting, decommissioning, and guiding others in data center hardware and related network/server interactions within Microsoft's CO+I data center operations.

Responsibilities

  • - Apply advanced diagnostic and troubleshooting expertise to quickly identify the cause(s) of issues.
  • - Decommission hardware for complex changes and/or systems with complex interactions following standard procedures.
  • - Delegate hardware installation, deployment, and/or replacement work to technicians while providing expert guidance for preparing, staging, setting up, and performing startups and shutdowns (e.g., racks, hard drives, switches).
  • - Ensure quality execution per standards, coordinate downtime, and keep stakeholders informed to minimize rework.
  • - Assist and guide technicians on challenging tasks and escalate issues as needed.
  • - Ensure post-execution quality checks, verifying grounding, staging, labeling, and cabling per safety protocols and deployment standards.
  • - Verify security compliance for decommissions and data-bearing device destruction.
  • - Maintain awareness of KPIs via dashboards and monthly performance discussions.
  • - Train and mentor technicians through on-the-job training and direct task guidance.
  • - Attend or assist in daily safety briefings; complete safety training and guide proper PPE usage, lifting, electrical hazards, ladder/rolling stair safety.
  • - Demonstrate pride and accountability for service quality and user experience.

Qualifications

  • - High school diploma, GED, or equivalent with basic knowledge of computer hardware and components and experience supporting IT equipment or related technology.
  • - Ability to work shifts including evenings, nights, weekends, and/or holidays
  • - Microsoft Cloud Background Check required (upon hire/transfer and every two years)
