About the role
An applied ML Engineer role building the AI engine for Synthesia's Roleplay Sessions training tool. You will develop models that listen to learners, score performance, generate real-time feedback, and drive AI-avatar responses to create interactive roleplay experiences. This is product-focused engineering rather than a pure research position.
Responsibilities
- Build and iterate the AI engine that powers coaching in Roleplay Sessions
- Develop models to listen to learner speech during roleplay and score performance
- Generate real-time feedback for learners to guide improvement
- Design and implement AI-driven avatar response decisions based on learner actions
- Work on diverse products with a product-focused mindset, balancing ML and software engineering practices
- Collaborate with engineers and product teams to deliver scalable solutions in production
Qualifications
- At least seven (7) years of experience as a software engineer, with at least 2 years at senior level
- Experience in a high-performing engineering team operating at scale (scale-up or established organisations)
- Ability to apply machine learning knowledge to solve real product problems
- Strong alignment with commercial success
- Pragmatism and bias towards action; comfort with fast iteration
