About the role

Microsoft Data Center Technician (DCT) who stages, sets up, deploys hardware, performs diagnostics, troubleshooting, and decommissions for simple changes and refreshes following Standard Operating Procedures within Microsoft’s CO+I data center environment.

Responsibilities

  • Performs diagnostics and troubleshooting following standard procedures, quickly identifies causes of issues, and replaces faulty components with minimal disruption.
  • Performs post-execution quality checks and verifies grounding, staging, labeling, and cabling per safety protocols, deployment standards, and planned Network Design Tasks (NDTs).
  • Decommissions hardware for simple changes and refreshes (e.g., memory upgrades, rebuilds) following standard procedures with minimal guidance.
  • Follows procedures to communicate, report, and escalate incidents to appropriate data center operations management units, Technician Leads, and engineering specialists.
  • Assists and provides guidance to other technicians to complete challenging or complex tasks.
  • Completes required training aligned to the role and workload; observes more experienced technicians for on-the-job training.
  • Contributes to a positive team environment by sharing information, participating in team meetings, and staying apprised of others’ work status.
  • Demonstrates accountability for service quality, completeness, and user experience; takes ownership of data center facilities.
  • Embeds Microsoft culture and values in daily work.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in IT or equivalent and basic knowledge of computer hardware and components (3+ years of experience supporting IT equipment or related technology).
  • Ability to work shifts, including non-standard hours (evenings, nights, weekends, holidays).
