About the role

Senior software engineer role at Samsara, remote from Canada, responsible for defining technical strategy, building end-to-end AI-powered products, and mentoring teams in a high-growth, data-driven environment. Flexible leveling from Senior to Staff+ with emphasis on building new systems, scale, and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of technically complex, mission-critical areas and drive them to completion.
  • Define and drive technical strategy for new products and platform capabilities, from backend services and APIs to the customer-facing UI.
  • Design and ship full-stack features end to end across backend, frontend, and potentially mobile to deliver AI-powered products.
  • Partner with product, design, and customer-facing teams to translate real-world problems into clear technical plans and measurable outcomes.
  • Build and scale systems behind AI-driven products, including data ingestion, APIs, and workflows that deliver intelligence to operators.
  • Raise the bar for engineers through code reviews, design reviews, mentorship, and setting quality/velocity standards.
  • Champion Samsara’s cultural principles and contribute to a growing, global team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in software design and development, including building and operating production systems at scale.
  • Strong full-stack fundamentals across backend services, APIs, and frontend (web or mobile).
  • Proficiency in Go, Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, React, or similar.
  • Experience leading cross-team or cross-org projects from inception through rollout.
  • Experience building AI-powered or data-driven products (not necessarily training models).
  • Strong communication skills and ability to translate between technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Track record of building zero-to-one products or solving hard problems.
