About the role

Microsoft Data Center Technician (DCT) responsible for staging, setting up, deploying, diagnosing, and decommissioning hardware in data center environments, with opportunities for mentoring, process understanding, and career growth within Microsoft Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I). Travel up to 25% domestically; may require non-standard hours and shift work.

Responsibilities

  • Complies with Data Center policies and deadlines; escalates compliance/operational issues.
  • Reviews Process Change Notifications (PCNs) and understands impact to work; asks questions and may provide feedback on process changes.
  • Completes assigned tickets efficiently aligned with KPIs; seeks guidance on challenging tickets.
  • Develops understanding of standard processes for preparing, installing, diagnosing, troubleshooting, replacing, and/or decommissioning IT data center technology and equipment; understands cabling, network, server, and storage interactions.
  • Completes security and data management training; may escort third-party vendors; reports security access concerns.
  • Participates in safety briefings; completes EHS training; uses PPE; adheres to safety practices; reports safety concerns.
  • Occasional ladder/climbing tasks; regular stairs; prolonged standing; lifting up to 25-50 lbs; occasional heavy lifting with assistive devices; normal vision and color vision required.
  • Travel up to 25% domestically; possible 12-hour shifts and non-standard hours; work in environments with noise and heat.
  • Contributes to team environment; shares information; participates in team meetings; adopts best practices across shifts.
  • Develops KPI awareness; escalates client interactions when needed; supports cross-functional data center processes.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent; basic knowledge of computer hardware and components.
  • Ability to speak, write, and understand fluent English
  • Background Check: Microsoft Cloud Background Check required on hire/transfer and every two years.
