About the role

Software Engineer II to design and deliver data-driven systems that reveal how Windows devices behave at scale. Own backend services and data pipelines, investigate product-health signals, and deliver improvements across Windows Fundamentals.

Responsibilities

  • Define and implement well-scoped Windows Fundamentals metrics, queries, cohort strategies, and measurement workflows across reliability, performance, responsiveness, power, battery life, memory, and storage.
  • Design, build, deploy, and operate reliable backend services and data pipelines for telemetry ingestion, transformation, orchestration, storage, health monitoring, diagnostics, and engineering workflows.
  • Apply and improve engineering practices for service reliability, security, compliance, observability, data quality, schema evolution, deployment safety, incident response, and operational support.
  • Analyze large-scale telemetry, diagnostic signals, and traces to identify trends, anomalies, regressions, causal factors, and customer impact.
  • Independently investigate metric movements and service issues using statistical methods, experimentation, debugging, and performance-analysis tools; translate findings into well-scoped engineering actions.
  • Design and deliver automation, AI-assisted analysis, dashboards, alerts, and diagnostic workflows that detect issues earlier and reduce manual engineering effort.
  • Contribute to technical designs and code reviews, resolve dependencies with partner teams, share findings, and mentor less-experienced engineers on well-understood areas.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • OR equivalent experience
