About the role

Lead a team responsible for Windows Fundamentals data and service capabilities, guiding technical strategy, developing engineering talent, and delivering scalable backend services, telemetry systems, data pipelines, metrics, and diagnostic workflows to improve Windows health at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Own the team's strategy and roadmap for Windows Fundamentals backend services, telemetry systems, data pipelines, metrics, cohort frameworks, and diagnostic capabilities.
  • Lead the architecture, delivery, and operation of scalable systems for telemetry ingestion, transformation, orchestration, storage, health monitoring, analytics, diagnostics, and engineering workflows.
  • Maintain a high engineering bar for service reliability, security, compliance, privacy, observability, data quality, schema evolution, deployment safety, incident response, and operational excellence.
  • Guide the team in using large-scale telemetry, statistical methods, experimentation, and systems debugging to identify regressions, understand product-health movements, and drive prioritized engineering actions.
  • Invest in automation, AI-assisted analysis, monitoring, and self-service capabilities that detect issues earlier, reduce operational toil, and increase the leverage of engineering teams.
  • Use data, customer insights, and business priorities to evaluate tradeoffs, manage risk, balance new capabilities with service health, and deliver measurable outcomes.
  • Hire, coach, and retain a diverse team of engineers while collaborating with Windows engineering, data science, security, silicon, OEM, and service teams to align architecture, dependencies, and execution.

Qualifications

  • At least 10+ years of software engineering experience and a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline (equivalent practical experience accepted).
  • At least two years of people-management experience leading software engineers, including coaching, performance management, hiring, and career development.
  • Experience leading design, development, deployment, and operation of backend services, distributed systems, data pipelines, telemetry platforms, or large-scale analytics.
  • Successful track record delivering and operating reliable production products, services, or engineering platforms at scale.
  • Strong technical judgment in service architecture, systems design, data engineering, security, reliability, debugging, and engineering tradeoffs.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity, prioritize investments using data, manage operational and delivery risk, and influence technical and product decisions across teams.
  • Experience managing a team responsible for cloud services, distributed systems, data engineering, telemetry platforms, developer infrastructure, or production operations.
  • Knowledge of Windows Fundamentals, Windows internals, reliability engineering, performance analysis, power efficiency, or system-level diagnostics.
  • Experience leading secure and compliant services with observability, deployment controls, data-quality practices, live-site response, and operational accountability.
  • Experience defining organizational metrics, cohorts, baselines, and measurement strategies using large-scale telemetry, experimentation, statistical analysis, or Azure data platforms.
  • Track record of shaping architecture and product direction, applying automation or AI to engineering workflows, and collaborating with senior stakeholders across organizational boundaries.
