About the role

Critical Environment Technician (CET) in Microsoft's Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) team responsible for maintaining and operating datacenter critical environment infrastructure, leading onsite incident response, performing maintenance, and ensuring safety and reliability of CE equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an operations specialist in one major area of CE operations (e.g., electrical, mechanical, controls, generators) and work on advanced tasks independently.
  • Inspect and supervise critical environment-related facility equipment (controls, HVAC, mechanical systems), building and grounds for unsafe or abnormal conditions and escalate per policies.
  • Utilize CMMS to track equipment assets and complete work orders for maintenance.
  • Safely and quickly respond to and lead onsite incident response teams for abnormal conditions impacting operations, coordinating with other CE professionals for corrective repairs.
  • Enhance, develop, or follow emergency operating procedures (EOPs), methods (MOPs), and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for CE operations and incidents.
  • Perform various maintenance (planned, predictive, corrective) and repairs following MOPs/SOPs for CE equipment (electrical, mechanical, cooling) and escalate when appropriate.
  • Have hands-on understanding of equipment and troubleshoot subsystems and components independently within trained disciplines.
  • Provide consultation to lower-level colleagues in troubleshooting systems and problems.
  • Understand and follow safety and security requirements (JHAs, EH&S, toolbox talks) and business processes to perform work safely and reliably in accordance with requirements.
  • Embody Microsoft culture and values in daily work.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent AND relevant experience in mission critical services work (e.g., data centers, high-availability environments) OR equivalent experience.
  • Relevant experience in a specialized area (e.g., mechanical, electrical, or controls) or related field.
