About the role

Staff Software Engineer role focused on shaping the Maps platform at Samsara. Responsible for geospatial data ingestion, processing, modeling, serving map data, map matching and routing foundations, and creating reusable APIs. Remote role open to candidates in the US.

Responsibilities

  • Shape the technical direction of the Maps teams
  • Build geospatial systems and integrations that support foundational features across most Samsara products
  • Scale offerings to support storage, query and computational load of real-time features
  • Consolidate existing team-specific geospatial solutions into scalable platform-wide offerings
  • Build agentic solutions that allow customers to self-serve the data they want to see how they want to see it
  • Raise the technical bar through code reviews, design discussions, and mentorship
  • Partner with engineering leadership on bets worth making, and be honest about tradeoffs
  • Represent Samsara externally when it makes sense — talks, open source, community engagement with the mapping/geospatial ecosystem

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
  • 8+ years building software, with at least 2 years in an architect or technical leadership role
  • Strong programming and design fundamentals
  • 4+ years working on large-scale distributed systems
  • 4+ years leading technical projects across multiple teams

  • The compensation range shown spans approved pay zones for this role. Your primary work location determines the range applicable to you, which may be narrower than the full range displayed.
  • Annual Base Salary: $162,400—$290,000 USD
  • Eligible for an initial RSU grant with no vesting cliff, and ongoing refresh opportunities tied to performance
