About the role

Senior firmware-focused engineering role at Samsara, leading end-to-end delivery across firmware, Go backend services, and web/mobile surfaces with AI/edge computing focus. Remote-only position open to the US and Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Own outcomes end-to-end, from a vague customer problem to a shipped, measured feature, across the full stack: firmware, Go backend services, and web and mobile surfaces
  • Drive technology choices, implement embedded and firmware solutions, and establish architectural patterns with broad impact from device to cloud
  • Leverage voice as the new interface, powering AI Agents as well as humans communicating
  • Design for the whole system: device constraints, connectivity, cloud services, and fleet-scale rollout
  • Identify opportunities and start strategic conversations that influence technology direction and engineering culture
  • Ensure the accuracy of AI algorithms at the edge within device constraints
  • Build with AI agents by default, raising AI fluency of engineers
  • Partner with Hardware to define/build next-gen devices and collaborate with Backend, Web, Mobile, Product, and Customer Success teams
  • Lead teams in delivering products and capabilities contributing to Samsara's products and revenue
  • Solve hard technical problems to bring products to market quickly with high quality
  • Act as a multiplier for the team and improve overall output
  • Champion and embed Samsara's cultural principles (customer focus, long-term build, growth mindset, inclusivity, team wins)

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience designing, developing, and deploying software, with deep expertise in embedded systems and firmware, including at least 2 years in a technical leadership or architecture role
  • Deep expertise in at least one embedded domain (e.g., multimedia, connectivity, drivers and kernel, power, real-time systems)
  • Has shipped across the stack: firmware, Go backend services, and web or mobile surfaces, not just embedded
  • Strong programming skills in C/C++, Go, Python, or similar
  • Product and systems thinking with shipping products and considering device constraints, connectivity, cloud, and fleet-scale rollout
  • High agency and execution speed: owns outcomes end-to-end from vague problem to shipped feature
  • Experience using AI tools in day-to-day engineering, builds with AI agents by default, and can discuss AI-generated code contribution
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and deliver complex, high-impact projects with multiple dependencies
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills across kernel driver reviews and backend design reviews
  • Track record of building systems that do more with less hardware, with comfortable budgets around compute, data, or hardware
