About the role
Founding Product Engineer to build next-generation consumer financial products for Forage’s payments platform, partnering with Product and Design to prototype, launch, and scale 0-to-1 products that improve financial lives for low-income Americans.
Responsibilities
- Build new financial products from 0 to 1. Partner with Product Lead to rapidly turn customer problems and product ideas into prototypes, experiments, and production-ready experiences.
- Own products end-to-end. Take responsibility for architecture, implementation, launch, monitoring, iteration, and scale.
- Help shape the product, not just the code. Participate in product discovery, challenge assumptions, identify opportunities, and bring technical creativity to decisions about what we build.
- Move quickly from idea to customer. Prototype and ship early versions to learn from real users, validate hypotheses, and iterate.
- Build across the stack. Work across consumer-facing applications, backend services, APIs, data models, integrations, and infrastructure as required by the product.
- Develop intuitive consumer experiences. Build simple, trustworthy experiences for financial products.
- Integrate with financial and commerce ecosystems. Build integrations with financial institutions, fintech platforms, retailers, delivery platforms, and other third-party partners.
- Use data to improve what you build. Collaborate with Product and Data to understand user behavior and measure product performance.
- Balance speed with trust. Make principled engineering decisions in a regulated environment focusing on security, privacy, reliability, and compliance.
- Establish the technical foundation for a new product area. Make early architectural decisions to enable rapid experimentation and scalable products.
- Help build the team. Establish engineering practices, standards, and culture as the team grows.
Qualifications
- 4+ years of professional software engineering experience, ideally with consumer-facing 0-to-1 products.
- Strong full-stack engineering skills and ability to independently build and ship complete product experiences.
- Product mindset focused on customer problems, not just technical implementation.
- Experience in highly ambiguous environments with evolving requirements.
- Track record of moving from idea to prototype to production with high quality.
- Frontend experience with modern frameworks such as React and TypeScript; ability to build backend systems.
- Experience designing backend services, APIs, integrations, and data models.
- Strong understanding of software engineering fundamentals: design, testing, debugging, performance, scalability.
- Ability to balance speed, quality, user experience, and long-term scalability.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with Product, Design, Data, Legal, Security, and business teams.
- High ownership and ability to drive projects from loosely defined problems to measurable outcomes.
- Excitement about advancing food access, financial inclusion, and financial opportunity for millions of Americans.
